Wet Weather Contingency Plans - Queenstown Elopements
While Queenstown is known for its bluebird days and breathtaking backdrops, every now and then the weather likes to keep us on our toes. If you’re planning an elopement or intimate wedding with more than 12 guests, we recommend locking in a wet weather back-up for your date.
Because of the logistics involved with larger groups, including helicopters, photographers, and stylists, we’re unable to reschedule weddings with that number of guests. Having a back-up venue ensures your day can go ahead seamlessly, rain or shine.
Below are some of our favourite indoor options for small, heartfelt ceremonies when the mountains decide to play hide and seek:
Hicks Cottage — Queenstown
A charming, intimate cottage tucked away in central Queenstown, perfect for smaller gatherings or family ceremonies.
Capacity: Up to 12 guests
Hire Fee: $400 (up to 3 hours)
Booking Terms: Full payment required at time of booking

Giverny Estate — Dalefield
Surrounded by manicured gardens and mountain views, Giverny Estate provides a serene indoor option with room to move and celebrate with your loved ones.

Hire Fee: $575 (up to 3 hours)
Booking Terms: 50% non-refundable deposit required

Waikaka Church - Arrowtown

Wet weather plans are like insurance — you hope you won’t need them, but when you do, you’ll be so glad they’re there. We suggest securing your chosen back-up space early to avoid disappointment, as these venues do book out quickly, especially during peak season.
